If you have Ulcerative Colitis, Don’t Make These Ulcerative Colitis treatment Medications Missteps

1-Missing a dose, mixing up your meds: It’s not difficult to make a mistake with medications if you have ulcerative colitis. But it’s also climacteric that you twig to the medication routine that your doctor suggest, says Byron Cryer, MD, a gastroenterologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.Medication adherence is one of the most essential parts of ulcerative colitis treatment. When you make many medication mistakes over time, you could damage your colon and even raise your risk of cancer. Here are seven tips for avoiding common Ulcerative Colitis treatment Medications mistakes.

2-Take Your Ulcerative Colitis treatment Medications as Prescribed:Some studies have found that people with ulcerative colitis don’t always stick to the medications they’re suggested. One example: A study published in January 2013 in the journal BMC Gastroenterology found that only about 28 percent of those with ulcerative colitis using the drug mesalamine followed their recommended dosage over a year.Taking your meds as prescribed will help to prevent short-term problems like diarrhea and ulcerative colitis flares. “Each flare increases the chance of chronic relapse,” says Gilbert Simoni, MD, a gastroenterologist at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

3-Understand Why You Take Your Medications: Ulcerative colitis not only involves taking numerous medications, it also usually involves different types of drugs. Some you may swallow, and others you may need to inject or take intravenously. That’s why it’s important for you to always find out why you need the various medications you use, Simoni says. When you understand why your body requires certain treatments, you may be more likely to stick to your medication regimen.

  1. Hi my name is Robert . I was diagnosed with UC in 1985. I suffered & struggled like everyone else with UC . Around the year 2000 I was told by my UC doctor to come in the following week to have most of my colon removed. That same week I had a God given opportunity to be working in a holistic doctors office at my job. I overheard a conversation the owner/doctor was having with a client. She was telling how she cured her UC herself with a holistic regiment. I spoke to her about my UC after the other lady left. She got me started on a colon cleanse called “clean start” by natures sunshine for 6 weeks. Then I start a regiment called “ultimate build”. Needless to say the more I stayed with it the regular my BMs got to be more normal in shape & freqency. As of today I watch my diet & stress level and eat most anything I want too without a single UC symptom since the year 2000. And no I didn’t have the sergury either. I’m still a whole man.
